What is in a name? (part 1)

What is the value or worth of a name? Does it matter if I am a 'boy named Sue' or a girl named Allyn or Kyle? Names are a moniker- an identifying brand that we can refer to as "self." This brand of self is seared to our souls.

In some faiths it is an acceptance into a church community. One example is found in the LDS faith. A name is chosen following the birth of a child. As soon as the mother feels comfortable the baby is taken to a LDS chapel where the baby is given a baby blessing.

A baby is taken to the front of the chapel where his father, a worthy priesthood holder, will then address Heavenly Father in prayer. At this point the father names the baby (rest assured that the mother has not been excluded from this process!) and blesses the baby as he is inspired from Heavenly Father to do so.

Tomorrow further thoughts on 'What is in a name?'
